The Great Wall today runs through five provinces and two autonomous regions.
The Zhou wall in 435BC - the earliest construction on the wall - is said to have been 2,500 miles long.
The [P 010 / Ming] were the most active wall builders of all the dynasties. The [M 002 / Ming wall] totalled 4,526 miles. 100,000 men patrolled it.
In addition to human chains and shoulder poles to carry building materials to the wall sites, goats were used to ferry bricks, which were tied to their horns.
Hundreds of miles of the Great Wall were destroyed during the Cultural Revolution. The stone was used to build roads, reservoirs or used for other building projects.
The Great Wall is China's most visited spot.
[I 001 / Width]: In some places, the wall is 20 to 23 feet thick at the base and 16 feet at the top. Ming walls were 21 feet thick at the base, narrowing to 16 feet at the top.
Height: 23 to 26 feet high in some spots. Ming walls were 22 to 26 feet high.
